I will not apologize.

Hooray! It's Oscar Sunday, a day I always look forward to. With all the pre-Oscar stuff, the Red Carpet stuff, then the actual  Oscar stuff and then all the after-Oscar stuff, it's a 5 or 6 hour night of inane TV watching along with Chinese Food. I do not cook on Oscar Sunday.

The Academy Awards have fallen out of favor these past few years and it's not cool to admit loving them, but I've never been one of the cool kids so that's ok by me. I love them.

And I won't apologize for it.

And what is it that I love so much? I don't really care who wins, although I always have a few that I have my fingers crossed for, but I like to see how the celebrities are looking ("omg....did she have her lips done?" "How did she ever get into that dress?" "How does she go pee wearing that?") The glitz and glitter and sparkly things....the dresses and colours.... I critique and I scoff and I admire.

Oh, that's right, I forgot,  it's horribly incorrect to comment on the clothes of the women, there are so many more important topics to cover. Oh, give me a break, Hollywood Women Who Announce Loudly  That They Are More Than Their Clothes, if you genuinely don't want people to ask you "who" you are wearing, or comment on your style, then don't wear that couture or vintage dress worth thousands and thousands of dollars with hand sewn Austrian crystals and hand made lace trim....wear a pair casual dress pants and a nice blouse. (any bets as to how many Karl Lagerfeld outfits we will see tonight?)

See, the thing is, it's all gotten out of hand. You have to be so careful to not offend  anyone by having your own opinions. You have to be sooooo careful of what you say and how you say it in case, god forbid, it gets misconstrued and instantly Tweeted and Instagrammed and Snapchatted and Facebooked and Tik-Tokked all over the universe to linger there forever, I don't even know what Tik Tok is, yet I fear it.

I think Kevin Hart would have been a great host. You can't expect me to believe that every single person who is either presenting an Oscar or nominated for one or is even sitting in the audience supporting the Oscars has never used a slur of some sort? Get serious. Every adult has said something offensive or told an offensive joke or made a mysogenistic statement at some point in their lives. But people change. People grow up. You can't judge someone by a statement they made years ago, especially when we don't always know the circumstances.

My grandmother was the true definition of a lady. She was classy and kind and loving and generous and Christian. But as a child she coloured with Crayloa Crayons that had the colour printed on the paper that wrapped the crayon. (Bear with me, this has a point). Do you know what one of the brown crayons was called? Yup, you got it, "n****r brown". My grandma used that word for years. Does that make her a rascist? Don't be ridiculous,  although today she would be shunned and vilified.

Sometimes a word is just a word....a bunch of letters strung together, not meant to harm anyone. Ignore it and get on with your life. Sometimes a word can be hurtful, I'm not implying that we should say out loud every thought that rolls around in our mind, rather I'm trying to say that sometimes people say something in the heat of the moment, in anger or resentment or jealousy or pain, and that shouldn't make them be "that person".

Anyhow. That got off-topic quickly. Good thing I'm not a celebrity, I'm sure someone would twist it all around and make it sound like I think Kevin Spacey and OJ Simpson would make excellent hosts and presenters, and then I'd be shunned and my sparkly, glittery Oscar dress would sit in my closet and gather dust as I scuttled through airport  to avoid the paparazzi and Charlie from TMZ.

Enjoy the show!
