Kinda sad. When it was announced that the World Junior’s were in Edmonton this year, I quickly checked for tickets. Of course they weren’t available yet, but a date was to be announced. I signed up to be notified of that date.

The date arrives (with notice sent to me ahead of time) and I got online the second it was opened, and discovered that this was only to enter the draw to be eligible to try and get a ticket. Geez. So, I did that and entered the draw....one per email address, so I did one for me and one for Steven.

Time goes by (2-3 weeks or so) and I get an email announcing the date to buy the tickets. I get online at the proper time, with all my information, but alas, the tickets were gone within seconds prior to my arrival. However, I signed up for “cancellations’.

So yesterday Steven gets the email saying that he can sign in and try for tickets (not me though, I didn’t get drawn) His window was 10 AM this morning, but ‘no guarantees’ they said, over & over again as “tickets will likely go quickly depending on your internet speed” and blah, blah, blah.

Anyhow, long story short, at 10 AM I signed in, went to purchase tickets (kinda knowing that the price would be out of my price range) and sure enough, tickets in the middle bowl, row 1 were available.....for $1800 each.  And this was for 5 games, then a semi-final and then one bronze medal game....no silver or gold. $3600 for both of us, plus hotels for the 7 days (can you imagine how the price of hotels will jump? Not only Xmas and New Years, but the World Juniors as well?) Gas, meals, other random expenses. I had 9 minutes to decide and sadly chose No.

I rubbed salt in the wound by checking again within minutes, and the tickets were all gone. My chance was finished. But that price was ridiculous anyhow, especially if Canada ends up not even being in the finals. And it IS Edmonton in December and January....what would we do between games? Oh well, maybe we will get drawn for some single tickets.
