Well the ice is thick enough for Gypsy to stand on, but not thick enough for me. This picture is mostly for my friend Kayleen who doesn't have ice where she lives! The water was only about 2-3 inches deep here, so even if the ice cracked, we would have all been fine, with nothing more than cold feet. I like the way the ice is so clear that you can see the bottom, usually it's much more "cloudy". Posted by Picasa

:) Thanks Shannon.

As it gets colder, do you have to protect Gypsy's feet from the cold, if you take her out for a walk?

As a child, where I grew up, the puddles would freeze over until about 9am in the morning. Our favourite game was to jump in the puddles and break the thin layer of ice, on our way to school. I haven't seen an icy puddle for more than 20 years.

However, I get the feeling this isn't a puddle? Is it the edge of a lake? And, yes the clarity of the ice is beautiful.

There is a place where we swim sometimes, called Rainbow Beach. It is a beautiful surf beach at the bottom of Fraser Island and sometimes the surf is so clear that you can see your toes when you are deep in the water.

Shannon thanks for that pic. Unlike Kayleen, where I grew up and where I live today, nothing 'freezes over'. We might have the occassional 'freezing cold, wet & windy day' but I have never lived where the puddles (or anything else) has frozen. :)
