Part 6 in which nothing much happens.

When we arrived Sunday night, there was a note waiting for us saying that we were to meet an Air Canada rep on Monday AM. I was a little surprised at this since we weren't on any sort of package deal, but I was pleased nonetheless (is that supposed to be one word?) So we got up early ( and what a treat to be on a non-tour holiday where NO alarm clocks are needed) and headed downstairs to the buffet breakfast, which was included in the price of our room. I got the biggest kick out of the Zumex machine, which squeezed the OJ in front of your eyes. Probably a very common machine, but I'd never seen one before. The buffet was great, obviously catering a bit more to Europeans than to North Americans as there was lots of fish, onions, meats, stew-type dishes, curries, cheeses etc. Also pancakes, pastries and cold cereal for us unhealthy North Americans. *sigh*

We finished our breakfast and went upstairs to meet Kenia, who sat with us and explained a few things like tipping (no US dollars please...they will take them, but would rather have pesos or Euros.)
She also gave us some good hints on where to go and what to see, and how to hire a local guide. She booked us seats at the Tropicana also. It was an unexpected treat to have her help us out.

After our little meeting with her, we headed out into the city to see what we could see, and also to look for an open air market that was supposed to a cinch to find. Simply go down 3 blocks, turn left, go down a few more and look for the St. John's hotel and it's right across the street. Easy Peasy.

I called this building The Cat House since all the mean cats of Havana seemed to hang out there.
