South Africa #10

After the horrendous climb up that freaking mountain, I was ready to relax. We got back to the hotel, I wiped the sweat off my brow, and no one bothered to shower .we all smelled the same at this point, and ain’t no one got time to waste by showering. A couple of us decided to find a grocery store, just because we all like foreign grocery stores. Plus I wanted to find a good, authentic bottle of hot sauce for Shane. We passed a street (pedestrian only) that was filled with little craft booths and whatnot, and also passed a massive refugee camp. It was pretty horrible....terrible shanty-type tents, no running water, very dirty,  the anger was quite tangible and they had a lot of protest signs. Security was pretty tight. We wanted to get to the store before dark...desperation causes people to do awful things and its highly recommended to not go out alone at all.

But we found our store....a huge place on a busy street. Outside was a lovely flower market, but inside was hectic! Line-ups all over the place and lots of noise. It was bedlam, but I got my hot sauce and some cookies, so all was well.

This is the square outside the hotel. Old church in front, huge craft market to the left, and the hotel to the right. The other, 4th side of the square had a few shops, an ATM and a couple of hostels.

Around the corner from “our” square, the streets were more regular. This is the one with all the crafts and clothing, and about 3 blocks away was the grocery store.

I obviously didn’t take pictures of the refugee camp.

After we got back to the hotel we went to The Burger and Lobster for dinner. The menu was quite small....can you guess what they served? Yup, burgers and lobsters. I had a lobster roll, fresh caught lobster from Capetown, oh my goodness....melt in your mouth deliciousness.

It was dark by then, so we went back to the hotel as a group to meet our guide and driver for the rest of the trip, and made a plan to leave Capetown tomorrow morning. I will post this now. ☺️
